Every Thursday, the Beijing Weekender distills City Weekend's database of nightlife events down to the weekend parties, concerts and live shows that you simply can't miss.

Another quick one as Beijing recovers from its collective hangover. Tonight, don't forget about Jeff Lang at Yugong Yishan or catch Gum Bleed, the Bedstars and new hardcore outfit *CS* at XP.

FRIDAY:

Head to the Bar at Migas to wish Detroit Series founder and promoter-about-town LaMarr Irby a happy birthday or say bon voyage to Guiguisuisui as he prepares to embark on a 43-city China, Malaysia and Indonesia tour.

SATURDAY:

We've said our piece about James Blunt but the adult contemporary standard-bearer plays tonight at the MasterCard Theater. Korean idol singer Lee Joon Gi takes over the Beijing Exhibition Center Theater. Finally, the tireless Yauman and Stebilinskiy host Los Residentes at the Bar at Migas.

SUNDAY:

Coming in under the radar is a rare screening of Chinese documentary filmmaker Zhao Liang's first feature, Paper Airplane. The story of heroin-addicted Chinese rockers in the 1990s, it's an important early work from one of the more interesting and less fecund directors working today. Screening starts at 3pm at zajia.
