Pakistani president praised China's Three Gorges Dam as "engineering marvel"

Three Gorges Dam, Hubei, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari visited the gigantic Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River, China's longest, in central China's Hubei province on Sunday.

Zardari said visiting Three Gorges Dam is a memorable experience. This marvel of engineering reflects the genius and skill of the Chinese people and the vision of the leadership.

Accompanied by Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui, Zardari visited the Exhibition Center of the Three Gorges Project, Tanziling Observation Tower, the Three Gorges Dam and the Power Plant.

Besides, he also witnessed the signing of a new cooperation document of hydro-power development between China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation and the WAPDA, Water and Power Development Authority of Pakistan.

At the invitation of the Chinese government, Zardari and his delegation arrived here Friday evening, kicking off his second China visit since he took office. His Hubei-tour focused on expanding cooperation between the two sides in hybrid seed and water conservancy.

Hubei is known for its hydropower generation and is an important base of grain production. The world famous Three Gorges Project is located in the province.

"Water is precious for the whole world", an important purpose of my visit here is to learn how to transform the rich water resources into hydropower, Zardari said.

Zardari left Hubei on Sunday evening and will continue his visit in Shanghai, one of China's main financial centers.
